ST. ANDREW’S EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
PRAYER BEFORE THE BLESSED SACRAMENT IS ABOUT AS CLOSE AS WE CAN COME IN THIS LIFE
TO TALKING WITH GOD FACE TO FACE. ST. JOHN VIANNEY ONCE COMPARED ADORATION TO
“SPIRITUAL SUNBATHING” - YOU ARE TAKING IN THE WARMTH OF THE GRACE AND LOVE RADIATING FROM THE SACRED HOST!
EUCHARISTIC ADORATION is currently held every Friday after the 8:45 AM Mass until 5 PM. On First Fridays Adoration is extended until 7 PM followed by Mass.
Please call (703-803-0308) or email Sharon Sheehy with any questions, concerns, suggestions, and to signup for a particular hour or even half-hour intervals.
“THE EXTRAORDINARY EVILS OF THE WORLD TODAY MUST BE OVERCOME WITH THE EXTRAORDINARY GOOD OF EUCHARISTIC ADORATION”
(Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen)
An hour in PARADISE
THE OBJECT OF EUCHARISTIC ADORATION IS THE DIVINE PERSON OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST PRESENT IN THE MOST BLESSED SACRAMENT.
HE IS LIVING THERE.
HE WANTS US TO SPEAK TO HIM.
AND HE WILL SPEAK TO US.
THIS CONVERSATION BETWEEN THE SOUL AND OUR LORD IS TRUE EUCHARISTIC ADORATION.
LOOK UPON THE HOUR OF ADORATION ASSIGNED TO YOU AS AN HOUR IN PARADISE.
GO TO YOUR ADORATION AS ONE WOULD GO TO HEAVEN,
TO THE DIVINE BANQUET. YOU WILL THEN LONG FOR THAT HOUR
AND HAIL IT WITH JOY.
TAKE DELIGHT
IN FOSTERING A LONGING FOR IT IN YOUR HEART.
TELL YOURSELF, “IN FOUR HOURS, IN TWO HOURS, IN ONE HOUR, OUR LORD WILL GIVE ME AN AUDIENCE
OF GRACE AND LOVE.
HE HAS INVITED ME;
HE IS WAITING FOR ME;
HE IS LONGING FOR ME.”
WHEN AN HOUR IS PARTICULARLY DIFFICULT, REJOICE ALL THE MORE;
YOUR LOVE WILL BE GREATER FOR ITS SUFFERING MORE.
IT IS A PRIVILEGED HOUR THAT WILL COUNT FOR TWO…
GO TO OUR LORD JUST AS YOU ARE.
BE NATURAL IN YOUR MEDITATION…
YOU CAN BE SURE OUR LORD WANTS YOUR HEART
AND NOT THAT OF SOMEONE ELSE…
ADORATION GUIDELINES
KEEP YOUR HOUR
It is important to the success of Eucharistic Adoration that you keep your scheduled time or find a substitute if you cannot. We ask that you arrive five minutes before the hour so that Our Lord will never be left alone. Please do not leave before your scheduled hour is completed and the next adorer has arrived.
SIGN IN
All regular adorers, substitutes, and visitors are asked to sign in every time they visit the Adoration Chapel; please sign your name on the sign-in sheet. This allows us to see gaps in the schedule and confirm that there is always someone present in the chapel.
QUIET ADORATION
Those who visit the adoration chapel will most often wish to adore Our Lord in silence. For this reason, please do not visit with others while in the Adoration Chapel. You may exit the chapel to talk if there are others present, but please NEVER leave the Blessed Sacrament unattended.
CHILDREN
Parents and caregivers are encouraged to bring children to visit Jesus. As Jesus said, “Let the little children come to Me.”(Matt 19:14). But please supervise your children. You may wish to bring books or coloring books to occupy their time. This is also a good time to teach quiet reverence and a love for Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. Model praying quietly for your children.
A TIME FOR PRAYER, REFLECTION AND READING
Your hour with Jesus may be spent in any number of ways: praying quietly, praying the Rosary, reading Scripture or other appropriate materials, or just sitting quietly listening to Jesus and admiring His Presence. It is a wonderful time for sharing your worries, concerns, angers, and thankfulness with Jesus, as well as a time to be open to response! Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament comes easily. Never feel worried if you find you have no thoughts at all while you are before the Blessed Sacrament. Never feel inadequate about being an adorer even if you have not developed a spirit of devotion, if you are numb, down and out, weakened by life. The all important fact is that you are before the Lord. Before Him who knows you inside and out. He reads your innermost thoughts and He still loves you immensely. Imagine that! The books and materials in the chapel are at your disposal. However, please leave all materials in place when you leave for others to use as well.
Remember, when the Church is truly centered on the Eucharistic Life, then we will have the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary!
“The Blessed Sacrament is the Living Heart of each of our churches and it is our very sweet duty to honor and adore the Blessed Host.” (Pope Paul VI)
OUR POLICY IN THE EVENT OF SEVERE WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE AS FOLLOWS:
WHEN FAIRFAX COUNTY SCHOOLS ARE OPERATING ON A DELAY, EUCHARISTIC ADORATION IS NOT CANCELLED, BUT WILL OPERATE ON ITS NORMAL SCHEDULE. ONLY WHEN SCHOOLS ARE CLOSED, WILL ADORATION BE CANCELLED.
